Frederik Samuel Knipscheer (born February 14, 1871 in Amsterdam , † December 5, 1955 in Bloemendaal ) was a Dutch theologian and historian.

Life

Frederik Samuel was the son of the headmaster and religion teacher of the baptized congregation in Amsterdam Jan Knipscheer (born August 30, 1836 in Zaandam; † June 8, 1927 in The Hague) and his wife Wilhelmina Johanna Meihuizen (born March 30, 1838 in Amsterdam; † April 2, 1926 ibid). After attending grammar school, he studied theology at the baptismal seminary and in 1890 at the University of Amsterdam . After completing his probationary year in 1896, he became pastor in Akersloot in 1898 , pastor in Grosthuizen in 1903 and pastor in Zaltbommel in 1911 . During the First World War he worked as a field preacher and was retired from his pastoral office in 1936. He spent his retirement in Bloemendaal in the Wildhoef house.

The free-spirited theologian was enthusiastic about the story. On his initiative, the church archives in Zaltbommel were indexed, later he continued work in The Hague in the Bureau for Historical Demography (today Centraal bureau voor genealogie), of which he was the founder. Knipscheer had a penchant for historical biographies. He made several contributions to the Nieuw Nederlandsch Biografisch Woordenboek (NNBW) and the Biografisch Woordenboek van Protestantsche Godgeleerden in Nederland (BWPGN). His main research area was the work of Heinrich Bomelius (around 1490–1570) and the beginnings of the Reformed Church in the Netherlands. In addition, he had left several essays on church history in various Dutch journals and specialist journals.

Knipscher married Geertruida Diederika van der Linden on July 21, 1898 in Amsterdam (born January 6, 1870 in Amsterdam, † September 7, 1958 in Bloemendaal). Children from marriage come from these:
