Free Download Manager ( FDM for short ) is a download manager for Windows and macOS .
Once developed as proprietary software, it was released from version 2.5 under the GNU General Public License (GPL) and from version 3.9 again as proprietary software.
Functions
The Free Download Manager offers the following functions:
- The transfer protocols HTTP , HTTPS and FTP are supported.
- The loading process can be continued (even if the IP address has changed) after the internet connection is interrupted, provided the server allows this, otherwise everything has to be reloaded.
- Bit torrent support
- Accelerate the speed by simultaneous downloading (parallel threads ) from different sources ( mirrors ) or different sections of a file
- Flash videos from several video portals (eg. B .: YouTube , MyVideo , etc.) can be saved and in another format to be converted
- A scheduler allows individual charging processes to be assigned to specific times.
- Entire websites can be downloaded automatically with the “HTML Spider”
- With the integrated "website explorer" you can mainly examine FTP sites
- A displayed, freely movable and transparent arrow symbol (called "floating window") enables new jobs to be added easily using drag and drop ; the main window can remain closed.
- Individual control of the bandwidths or speeds of individual loading processes.
- Lists of processed activities can be displayed.
- Uploading (sending) files and folders.
- After the task has been completed, either the program or the computer can be shut down ( shutdown )
