Freecycle

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Freecycle is an internet giveaway network operated by the nonprofit The Freecycle Network .

The gift network "Freecycle" was an idea of the American Deron Beal to reduce waste and counteract the affluent society . Freecycle has grown rapidly since 2003 and now has over two million members in around 2,000 local Freecycle groups in 50 countries (as of April 2006). The roughly 70 groups in Germany were founded by Thomas Pradel since March 2004.

Procedure and differences

The name Freecycle (from English free - free of charge and cycle - cycle, in the sense of recycling ) stands for the idea of a new way of giving away items through an internet-based network. Functional, but no longer used things should be put to a meaningful use again. Interested parties meet via local internet groups and give away items or search specifically for items that others have to give away.

After an uncomplicated registration, each group member can offer items, furniture, etc. free of charge with a brief description. With successful contact between interested parties and providers, e.g. B. by e-mail , the collection or delivery is organized.

This is to be distinguished from the so-called free shop , where goods are physically delivered as gifts without usually knowing the recipient.
