The Freelancer-Kompass is a representative online market study of the IT industry, which has been carried out annually by freelancermap GmbH in the German-speaking region ( DACH ) since 2016 . In around 70 questions, over 1,000 IT freelancers provide insights into the job description, demographics , financial situation, order situation and important future trends. The Freelancer Compass is a recognized trend indicator in the IT and self-employed industry. The survey, evaluation and analysis are carried out by the Nuremberg project placement platform freelancermap.

Content of the study

The Freelancer Compass examines the following areas:

Finances: The study examines all relevant information about the hourly rate, turnover, profit, net income and income satisfaction in the focus on "finances" and thus provides a concrete picture of the income situation of freelancers.

Self-employment: Under “self-employment”, freelancers answer questions about challenges, advantages and disadvantages, duration and workload in free project business. In this way, precise statements can be made about the freelance work.

Demography: The demographic complex includes, in particular, origin, education, specialist areas, industry, company size of the commissioning project partners and the income differences among freelancers.

Outlook: Questions about forecasts, current market developments and the future order situation can be found under “Outlook” and thus result in tendencies for the respective subsequent years.

Study results 2019

The Freelancer Compass 2019 is the fourth edition of the annual market study. The hourly rate for IT freelancers is currently 93.89 euros on average. On the basis of these results, specific conclusions can be drawn repeatedly about the situation of IT freelancers.
