Christmas market on the day

The Freiberg Christmas market takes place every year in the run -up to Christmas on the upper market in the mountain town of Freiberg , which is surrounded by medieval town houses . This gives the market a special, inimitable atmosphere and it is a typical Erzgebirge Christmas market , which is expressed by the strong reference to mining and the typical Christmas decorations of this region, smokers , candle arches , miner and angel figures or the Christmas pyramids . A highlight is the traditional mountain parade by torchlight, which takes place every year on the Saturday of the second Advent .

According to an MDR survey from 2008, the Freiberg Christmas market is one of the most beautiful and traditional Christmas markets in Germany. It usually starts on the last weekend in November and ends on December 22nd.

In January 2017 Freiberg won the "Best Christmas City" competition in the medium-sized cities category.
