The Free Garden Academy is a series of cultural events in Münster with an international cast around the theme of gardens. The Free Garden Academy is curated and organized by the Münster artist Wilm Weppelmann . It has been held annually since the summer of 2006. The Free Garden Academy was established in 2017 as an official project of the United Nations, the UN Decade of Biological Diversity - Social Nature. Nature appreciated for all . The chairwoman of the Bundestag Committee for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety Bärbel Höhn presented the award.

concept

The central theme of the project is “the garden” in all “existential, ecological, philosophical, social and cultural dimensions” . The location of the events is Wilm Weppelmann's allotment garden in an allotment garden in Münster. During the summer months June to September, this normal vegetable and herb garden is open for readings, lectures, discussions, presentations, small exhibitions and concerts. The lecture "Every garden is philosophy" by the philosopher Dr. Andreas Mussenbrock opened the first garden academy on June 7, 2006. The Free Garden Academy has been a registered association since April 17, 2007 and is also developing other garden cultural initiatives and events.
