Havelland Free Corps

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Freikorps Havelland was a right-wing terrorist organization in Brandenburg . The group carried out ten attacks against foreigners and their businesses. In March 2005, members of the group were sentenced to between eight months and four years in prison.

attacks

The series of attacks began in August 2003 with an attempted arson attack by two members on an Asian food truck. Several more arson attacks followed. The leader of the group was a 19-year-old high school graduate. By May 2004, the eleven young men carried out ten arson attacks in Nauen , Falkensee , Schönwalde and Brieselang . The total damage amounted to around 800,000 euros. The group carried out the most devastating attack on August 31, 2003 in Nauen: the fire that the perpetrators had set on an Asian food truck that morning spread to an adjacent building. A supermarket burned out completely. A drinks shop and a Vietnamese textile trade also burned down.

The ten attacks were aimed exclusively at food trucks, restaurants or shops operated by foreign operators.

process

The ringleader was sentenced to four and a half years imprisonment before the Higher Regional Court of Brandenburg in March 2005, and several accomplices were sentenced to suspended sentences of between eight months and two years. According to the court, the men had founded the volunteer corps with the aim of expelling foreigners through attacks. "If eleven young men come together to form an association" to cleanse the Havelland of foreigners ", that is terrorist," wrote the court in the grounds of the judgment.

The judgments against several members of the right-wing extremist “Freikorps Havelland” for founding a terrorist organization were upheld by the Federal Court of Justice .

Aftermath

In 2014, ten years after the end of the "Freikorps", the "Alliance against the Right" organized an exhibition on this part of Havelland's history in the foyer of the district building in Nauen.
