The open- air theater Bad Windsheim is a professional open-air stage in Bad Windsheim in Middle Franconia, where professional actors and amateurs play in front of up to 15,000 spectators every year. The program includes children's and adult plays in spring and summer, and winter walking theater through houses and courtyards on the Bad Windsheim museum grounds in the winter season.

The open air theater was founded by theater professionals in cooperation with the Franconian Open Air Museum Bad Windsheim and the Middle Franconia district in 2003. The first season in 2004 showed with "das fliegend schweyn" the principles of this form of theater, which is inspired by Swiss open-air theater: A large ensemble of professionals and amateurs plays a specially tailored piece at a special, original venue, often with live music living animals and in front of houses or landscapes.

In the open-air theater Bad Windsheim only in-house productions are shown, which are then sometimes also taken over by other open-air theaters.

It is played at different venues every year, always within the Franconian Open Air Museum, one of the largest open-air museums in southern Germany with a good 100 buildings on a spacious area. A grandstand with a capacity of 300 to 400 spectators will be set up in front of a historical backdrop. Between December and August, during rehearsals and performances, around 100 people live and work for the theater.

In addition to the Middle Franconia district and the Franconian Open Air Museum, the open-air theater is supported by the city of Bad Windsheim and above all by well-known companies and institutions in the city and region.
