The Foreign Language Institute of the City of Munich (FIM) is the only public training facility for foreign language professions in Bavaria .

history

The institute was founded as a municipal language school on the initiative of the then Munich city school councilor Anton Fingerle immediately after the end of the Second World War on October 26, 1945. Fingerle appointed the German and English scholar Luitpold Haberl as the founding director .

From 1974, the school was as a vocational school in the vocational education incorporated the city of Munich. Since then, the school supervision has been with the responsible department of the government of Upper Bavaria , which is responsible for the curricula, timetables and final exams according to the specifications of the Bavarian State Ministry for Education and Culture . Training at this language school is free of charge .

cooperation

The institute cooperates internationally with Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh and is integrated into the Erasmus program as well as the Erasmus + program of the European Commission .

management

The institute was headed by Gabi Galster from 1999 to 2005 and by Gabriele Grojer from 2006 to 2016 . In 2016, Renate Klar took over the management of the institute .
