Frente de Unidad Nacional

The Frente de Unidad Nacional ( FUN ; German  Front of National Unity ) is a no longer active Cuban opposition group . The independent journalist José Antonio Fornaris , who founded it in 1991 and then directed it, was detained, interrogated and threatened for 19 days by the security authorities in 1994. Fornaris now acts as the chairman of the Asociación Pro Libertad de Prensa (APLP, German Association for Pro Press Freedom ), which he initiated in 2006 .

In 1992, the three group members Víctor Reynaldo Infante, Omar del Pozo and Carmen Julia Arias were sentenced to prison terms of between 9 and 15 years in a show trial for allegedly exposing several people as agents of the Cuban State Security and were released in 1998 on condition that they go into exile. On the same matter, but in a separate trial before a military tribunal, Julio César Alvarez, an officer in the Cuban secret police who contacted the opposition and alerted them to undercover agents in their ranks, was charged . He was sentenced to 19 years in prison for disclosing state secrets and disobeying him.
