Frequency selective surface

As a frequency selective surface (engl. Frequency selective surface , abbreviated FSS ) refers to surfaces that electromagnetic radiation frequency- dependent reflection , in particular in the radio frequency range up to several GHz .

FSS coatings can mask individual frequencies, for example to suppress interference from a strong transmitter without simultaneously preventing reception of all transmitters. A tunable radar can differentiate between flying objects based on the FSS reflection pattern .

In the frequency range of visible light , such surfaces are nothing special, since simple coloring causes a frequency selection.
