Fridolin Purtscheller

Fridolin Purtscheller is an Austrian mineralogist , petrograph and geologist who was a professor at the Mineralogical Institute of the University of Innsbruck .

Purtscheller was a student of Josef Ladurner (1908–1997) in Innsbruck , a student of the father of structural science Bruno Sander . He received his doctorate in Innsbruck in 1959 (sediment petrographic investigations on the main dolomite of the Brenta group).

In the Alps, he particularly examined the old crystalline complex of the Ötztal and Stubai Alps , the metamorphic zones of which he researched and on which he wrote a monograph. He also did research in the Himalayas .
