Ladurner, whose family has South Tyrolean roots, studied geology, palaeontology and mineralogy with Raimund von Klebelsberg and Bruno Sander at the University of Innsbruck after graduating from high school in Innsbruck. In 1931 he received his doctorate under Sander (The Quaternary Deposits of Sellrain (Stubai Alps)). He then worked as a demonstrator in Innsbruck and mapped the Dolomites (Geological map Villnöß-Gröden 1: 25,000, with Werner Heißel , published in 1936). From 1936 he was an assistant, worked as a military geologist for the air force in Scandinavia during the Second World War, completed his habilitation in 1950 in Innsbruck in mineralogy and petrography, became an associate professor in 1954 and a full professor and head of the institute in 1955, succeeding Bruno Sander. In 1958/59 he was dean of the Philosophical Faculty, from 1960 to 1962 a senator and in 1978 he retired.

As a student of Bruno Sander (the father of structural science), he dealt with structural science (especially grain structure science) and petrography of the Alps.

From 1963 to 1978 he was co-editor of Tschermaks Mineralogische und Petrographischen Mitteilungen and from 1962 to 1994 of the publications of the Tyrolean State Museum Ferdinandeum. 1974 to 1988 he was director of the museum.

With his student Fridolin Purtscheller he published two popular science books on mineralogy.

In 1987 he received the Decoration of Honor of the State of Tyrol .
