The two treaties of Cherasco, which ended the Mantuan War of Succession (1628–1631) in northern Italy, are called the Peace of Cherasco .

The contract of April 6, 1631 was signed by the agents of Emperor Ferdinand II , King Louis XIII. of France, and signed by Duke Viktor Amadeus I of Savoy in Cherasco. In a further agreement of June 19, 1631, the first contract was confirmed and new provisions on the procedure for the withdrawal of troops were also decided.

In detail, it was agreed that

  • that all foreign troops withdraw from the war zone;
  • that the Duke of Savoy renounces his claims in Montferrat and receives around half of the Duchy of Montferrat worth 15,000 écus as a replacement ;
  • that the Duke of Nevers, Carlo I. Gonzaga , will be compensated for the loss of his territories with a one-off payment from the Duke of Savoy equal to the total annual income of these territories;
  • that the Duke of Nevers receives the remaining territories from the Emperor and Empire as a fief;
  • that Ferrante II Gonzaga renounces his claims to the Duchy of Mantua and receives Reggiolo and Luzzara as replacements .
