Peace of Nikolsburg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The peace of Nikolsburg on December 31, 1621 initially ended the fighting between Gabriel Bethlen , Prince of Transylvania , and Emperor Ferdinand II.

After the Battle of the White Mountain (November 8, 1620), the imperial troops succeeded in advancing into Upper Hungary (now Slovakia ) and regaining the territories that had been lost to Gabriel Bethlen . Ferdinand II then dictated the peace of Nikolsburg (Mikulov). Gabriel Bethlen had to renounce the Hungarian crown and all conquered territories, as compensation he was allowed to add territories in Upper Hungary and Northeast Hungary to his principality.
