Peace field

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A peace field is a piece of arable land that is used by a group, e.g. B. the peace movement , is bought.

There are peace fields in different parts of Germany, e.g. B. in Glimbach (in the Rhineland ) and near Bell (Hunsrück) . They were built to prevent the expansion or even the construction of military installations.

In Glimbach, 1,600 m² of land was acquired from over 1,200 individual owners in order to make the expansion of Castle Gate , a NATO command center, impossible. In Bell this prevented the expansion of the missile base there .

An expropriation of the large number of owners would have meant a considerable expenditure of work and time.

Most of the peace fields were acquired in the 1980s. There are peace crosses on them . In 1992, Buddhist monks built a small peace pagoda in Glimbach using material from the Groß-Rosen concentration camp .
