The monument consisted of several limestone slabs joined together . Between six smaller support elements there were five larger steles , ground down and with inscriptions . The center of the monument was the largest slab in the middle with a height of about 2 meters, the symbol of three interlocking wheels as a symbol for cycling as well as the inscription Internationale Radfernfahrt für den Friedens: Warsaw - Berlin - Prague , which characterized the route of the peace voyage of 1954. The two steles to the left and right of it were about 1.60 meters high and also contained inscriptions. The only thing that seems certain is that the overall winners of the individual and national rankings from 1948 onwards, as well as the winners of the peace journey stages arriving in Leipzig, were continuously chiseled in.

The entire monument was about 10 meters wide and was located on a raised space about 30 cm, embellished with flowerbeds on the front and bordered by natural stones laid out in two layers. In front of the monument there was an access lined with processed natural stone, behind the smaller supporting elements five flagpoles were anchored.

history

On May 10, 1954, the 7th stage of the International Peace Tour led from Berlin to Leipzig (winner Jan Veselý ), on the same day the memorial was ceremoniously and officially opened before, after a day of rest, the drive to Chemnitz (then Karl-Marx-Stadt) was continued. In the course of the next few years the entries on the plaques of the memorial were added, until at least 1966 the memorial can be verified on Johannisplatz. According to contemporary eyewitness reports, the memorial was demolished in the early 1970s, and the engraved elements were built into the outer wall of the Leipzig Central Stadium and moved there at least once. The current whereabouts of the steles are unknown, as is the name of the designer.
