The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Peace was built in the town of Zedtwitz in the form of a round building in 1957 and was consecrated on July 20, 1958. Politically, Zedtwitz has been part of the municipality of Feilitzsch in the Upper Franconian district of Hof in Bavaria since 1978 . Ecclesiastically, the Friedenskirche with the parish of Zedtwitz belongs to the Hospital Church in Hof to this day .

history

Zedtwitz and its hamlets have belonged to the parish of Hof since time immemorial, never had their own parish and were finally added to the hospital parish. In the 15th century there was once a small chapel that is said to have stood on the so-called birch hat . The Hofer Pfarrbuch from 1446 mentions a chapel that belonged to the St. Clarakloster in Hof. Zedtwitz had a chapel and test priests, but had no parish rights , pastors were only allowed to preach in the chapel with the permission of the competent Hofer pastor. How long this chapel stood in Zedtwitz is not known.

So the Zedtwitzer had to attend the service in the Hof hospital church; later he was celebrated in the school house. When the Catholic parish built a small chapel in Hohbühlstrasse in 1936, it was also allowed to be used by the Protestant parish for church services. In 1948 the plan was made to build a church, but the currency reform shrank the savings reserves . In 1953, at the suggestion of Pastor Wilhelm Kneule and Church Director Johann Spitzbarth, a church building association was founded that collected money for a new church. Since the church was to be built in the center of the village, an agreement was finally reached on a building site in the castle park next to Zedtwitz Castle, which the Zedtwitz community made available free of charge. In October 1957, construction of the church began according to plans by the architect Horst Rudorf. The foundation stone was laid on November 9, 1957. The church was consecrated on July 20, 1958. At the back of the church, a small parish hall was later added by the architect Rudorf, which was inaugurated on December 20, 1985.

The mural behind the altar shows the risen Christ, who bears the stigmata of his crucifixion and stands on a globe surrounded by his disciples. It was created by the Munich artist Gerd Jähnke and is continued in the ceiling of the church. There the hand of God, flanked by two angels, points to Christ and commemorates his baptism .
