The Peace Church Glogau ( Polish Kościół Pokoju w Głogowie ) was a Protestant church in Glogau in the Duchy of Glogau in Silesia (since 1945: Głogów , in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship in Poland ).

history

The resolutions of the Peace of Westphalia in 1648 included the permission to build three peace churches for the Silesian Protestants , namely in Glogau, Schweidnitz and Jauer . However, some conditions had to be met: stones and bricks were forbidden as building materials, only wood, clay and straw were allowed. Equipping the churches with towers or bells was also not permitted. The only possible locations were places outside the city walls. The construction period could not exceed one year. The municipality had to bear the construction costs.

The first Glogau peace church “ God's Hut ” ( Boża Strzecha in Polish ) was built after 1648 and consecrated in 1652. It served as a Protestant parish church for the old town of Glogau. After the collapse in 1654 it was rebuilt and in 1655 it was re-consecrated as the Church of Christ's Cribs. It was destroyed in a big fire in 1758.

As a replacement, the church of the “Little Ship of Christ” was built within the city walls of Glogau in 1764–1772 .
