Marcell from Donat

Marcell von Donat (born February 12, 1933 in Liegnitz , Silesia) is a German economist and author.

Life

Von Donat spent his childhood in Berlin and Rome . In 1946 he and his family were expelled from Silesia. After graduating from high school in Wiesbaden in 1953, he passed the exam to become a qualified economist at the University of Mainz in 1956 . From 1957 to 1958 he took part in a trainee course in the German steel industry in Duisburg, Witten, Bochum and Düsseldorf. In 1958 he joined the High Authority of the European Coal and Steel Community in Luxembourg . When the European executives merged, he moved to the European Commission in Brussels. From 1968 to 1997 he served in various functions of the EU Commission, including as press spokesman and from 1990 to 1995 as head of cabinet of German Commissioner Peter Schmidhuber . After his retirement he moved to Munich. Von Donat wrote numerous articles for DIE ZEIT , FAZ and magazines. From 1984 to 1985 he was a Harvard Fellow at the Center for International Affairs in Cambridge / USA. From 1989 to 1991 he taught as a professor at the College of Europe in Bruges , and from 1994 to 1996 at the Université Libre de Bruxelles . From 1990 to 1992 he gave lectures at the Humboldt University in Berlin and until 2006 at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich. He is with the TV journalist Edda von Donat , geb. Baroness von der Brüggen, married and has three children.
