Church interior

The Protestant Peace Church Neichen is the church space of the Protestant Free Church Overath. From 1965 to 2015 it was owned by the regional evangelical parish Overath and was sold to the Free Church in 2016. It is located on a hill in Steinenbrück , a district of Overath in the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis .

architecture

The architect was Peter Paul Smrha. The church was consecrated on January 14, 1965. The simple, three-column, separate bell tower has two bells with the tones C sharp and e. The unconventional glass roof construction gives the church an exceptionally bright, light-flooded interior.

Furnishing

In the entrance area there is a stone relief by the artist Günter Ferdinand Ris . The work of art is titled: “The cockcrow” and is intended to remind of the passage in the Bible which says: “And Jesus said to him: Truly I say to you: Today this night, before the cock crows twice, you will deny me three times ". (Mark 14, verse 30)

In the interior, images with strong colors (red, gold, ocher, orange and green) appear on the viewer. The artist Armin Klötzing, who is also known under the pseudonym “Delicious”, called his series of pictures “The Touch of God”.

Electronic organ

The strong sunlight during the day would have led to constant detuning in a conventional organ. Therefore an electronic organ was installed.

Church closed in 2015

In November 2010 the presbytery of the Evangelical Church Overath discussed the need to close the church due to the financial situation. In order to avert an impending church closure, a "Support Group Peace Church Neichen" was formed. She is committed to the preservation of the church building.

In March 2015, the Friedenskirche had to be given up in favor of the Reconciliation Church due to the reduced number of members.

Since November 2015, the Protestant “Free Church Overath”, founded as the “Evangelical Congregation for Rösrath”, has been renting the church space for its public services on Sundays. In 2016 she bought the church for € 600,000.
