The Peace Medal was an award of the Free German Youth of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), which was donated in 1950 and awarded for the only time. FDJ members were honored for their excellent work in the FDJ's peace contingent. The medal with a diameter of 35 mm shows the left-facing head portraits of Josef Stalin (front) and Wilhelm Pieck (behind) on its obverse . This symbolism is surrounded by the inscription: PEACE OF THE GERMAN YOUTH . The lapel of the medal shows a dove of peace in the middle, which rests on the FDJ symbol. This symbolism is also enclosed by the inscription: PEACE PENSION OF GERMAN YOUTH (above) and the day of the event 1. VII. - 1. XI. 1950 (below). The medal was worn on the upper left side of the chest of the borrower on a blue enameled, later lacquered ribbon with the central FDJ symbol.
