The cemetery in Affaltrach , a district of the Obersulm community in the Heilbronn district in northern Baden-Württemberg , was laid out in 1819 and has been expanded several times since 1960.

history

The original Affaltrach cemetery was located near the Johanneskirche and was divided into sections for Evangelicals and Catholics. The smaller part of the churchyard between the church and the old Catholic parsonage was reserved for the numerically smaller Catholics, the Protestant community used the part between the Protestant parsonage and church. There used to be an ossuary in the old cemetery .

Today's cemetery was laid out outside the village in 1819. It was bordered with a fence and closed by a gate. In keeping with the proportion of denominations in the area, three quarters of the cemetery were intended for Protestant burials and one quarter for Catholic burials. The graves of the different denominations were separated from each other by a wide path. The cemetery regulations stipulated that burials should begin at the gate and that the separation according to denominations should be maintained until the space in one of the cemetery sections was exhausted. This order was essentially adhered to until the first expansion of the cemetery in 1960. In the same year a morgue was also built.
