The Pinkafelder cemetery chapel is situated in the cemetery of Pinkafeld in Burgenland , which was rebuilt in 1779, after they had abandoned the old cemetery at the Catholic parish church. It was donated by Count Nikolaus Batthyány and his wife Franziska .

The listed chapel is an early work of the Viennese architect Carl Roesner and is considered a remarkable building of romantic historicism in terms of art history . It is a simple neo-Gothic building with a rectangular floor plan. The foundation stone for building the chapel was laid on April 27, 1835. The inauguration took place in the same year on October 25th.

Eduard Jakob von Steinle painted the historically important altarpiece and the predella . The altarpiece and predella are among Steinle's early works and are of high quality. The pictures illustrate his academic training among the Nazarenes . The altarpiece shows the crucifixion of Christ, the background is gilded. The predella represents the redemption of the poor souls from purgatory . Eduard Steinle was a member of the romantic circle around Countess Batthyány in the Pinkafelder castle .

Church services used to be held in the chapel on All Souls' Day and on Mardi Gras. In addition, the cemetery chapel was used to lay the deceased before the construction of the mortuary.
