Friedrich Adolph von Holstein (born October 18, 1784 on Gut Waterneverstorf ; † May 21, 1836 in Holsteinborg Castle ) was Count von Holsteinburg, royal Danish chamberlain, writer and member of the Roskilder Estates Assembly.

His parents were Lieutenant General Heinrich von Holstein-Holsteinburg (* September 28, 1748 - July 27, 1796) and his wife Maria von Rantzau-Breitenburg (* October 4, 1762; † November 17, 1831). His brother Heinrich Christoph von Holstein (1786–1842) was one of the last Lübeck canons.

Life

He matriculated in 1802 and studied in Kiel and Göttingen . In 1807 he graduated in law and Latin. In 1808 he took over the county of Holsteinburg. In 1809 he founded a company for industry and household (it failed), in 1810 the first Danish savings bank (Holsteinborg Sparekasse, which was only accessible to his employees) and in 1811 the first cattle insurance company. He was also involved in modernizing schools. He himself finances several schools for poor children. On January 23, 1812, he was appointed chamberlain by the Danish king.

In 1814 he made a constitutional proposal for Norway and advocated the abolition of slavery in Denmark. In 1818 he was appointed representative of the Danish National Bank , where he tried in vain to increase transparency, and after two years he resigned.

In 1834 he became a member of the Roskilder Estates Assembly , where he was active in numerous committees. Friedrich Adolph von Holstein died of nerve fever in 1836 .

He married Wilhelmine Julie von Reventlow on May 4, 1808 (July 30, 1788, † October 8, 1868). The couple had several children:
