Friedrich Eckoldt

Friedrich Eckoldt ( June 20, 1887 - May 31, 1916 ) was a commander of the Imperial Navy in World War I , most recently in the rank of lieutenant captain .

Friedrich Eckoldt commanded the large torpedo boat V 48 . During the Battle of the Skagerrak , V 48 sank on the evening of May 31, 1916 due to an attack by British ships and cost Eckoldt and his entire crew their lives.

The German destroyer Z 16 was named after him in honor of Eckoldt in 1938 .
