Friedrich Eggers (Mayor)

Heinrich Jacob Friedrich Eggers (born September 5, 1867 in Großensee (Holstein) , † May 10, 1945 in Wedel ) was a German politician and administrative officer . He was mayor of Wedel from 1902 to 1932.

Life

Eggers was born in Großensee (Holstein) as the son of farmers. After attending school, he served as a paymaster in the military for around twelve years, then worked in civil administration, from 1901 in Uetersen . In March 1902 he was elected the first salaried mayor in the history of the city of Wedel. He was re-elected in November 1913 and 1926. Eggers remained mayor of the city until 1932.

In 1937 Eggers became an honorary citizen of Wedels, he died on May 10, 1945. In the city, a street on the high bank of the Elbe bears Eggers' name, which goes back to a resolution of the administration in November 1954. Eggers' tenure as mayor included the incorporation of the neighboring town of Schulau , which was decided by the municipal committees in 1908, as well as the commissioning of the power plant on Schulau's banks of the Elbe in 1928 and the Wedel hospital.
