from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Friedrich Heinrich Wilhelm of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg (* March 15, 1747 - † March 13, 1779 ) was Duke of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg from 1766 to 1779 . With him, the older line of the Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg family died out.

Life

Friedrich Heinrich Wilhelm was the eldest son of Duke Friedrich and Henriette Auguste zu Lippe-Detmold. When his father died in 1766, he was the only male member of the family and inherited the duchy, which had shrunk under his father's government . At the same time he continued his military career in the Danish army. Most recently he served as major general of the cavalry.

His marriage in 1769 to Anna Carolina von Nassau-Saarbrücken (1751-1824), the daughter of Wilhelm Heinrich von Nassau-Saarbrücken , remained childless. After his death, the widow married Karl Friedrich Ferdinand von Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel-Bevern (1729–1809). After her death, Glücksburg Castle and the title fell to Friedrich Wilhelm from the Beck line, who founded the younger Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg line.
