Life

Counties of Hohenzollern around 1370

Friedrich was the son of Friedrich V. von Zollern . The Swabian Hohenzollern had a conflict within the family. For this reason, the possessions between Friedrich and his brother Friedrich VI. divided. Friedrich founded the Zollern-Schalksburg line. Thus there was a separation in Zollern-Zollern and Zollern-Schalksburg. Friedrich married Udilhild von Merkenberg in 1282. The count was also referred to as Friedrich I. von Merkenberg because of his wife. The Schalksburg line died out in 1408.

Descendants

The count had the following children with his wife Udilhild:

  • Friedrich II. The younger Merkenberger († before April 1318) ∞ Agnes von Nellenburg († after 1325)
  • Udihild († after 1349) ∞ Albert von Hals († 1334)
