Friedrich Könekamp (* 1897 in Offenburg ; † 1977 ) was a German mathematician , educator , painter and writer.

Life

At 19 he was in the summer battle and then a prisoner of war in the Stobs camp (Scotland). This was followed by studying mathematics and philosophy in Basel, Freiburg and Berlin. From 1928 onwards, he and his wife Irmgard worked at the educational reform school by the sea on the North Sea island of Juist , which was founded and led by Martin Luserke . He also worked on the magazines "Die neue Zeit" and "Welt am Abend" in Berlin. Participation in the socialist movement, complete turning away from Christianity. The first artistic works found distribution as Spartacus posters on house walls, walls and advertising pillars.

As a member of the "Association of Free School Reformers" he was persecuted by the Gestapo in 1933. He went into exile in Switzerland, Spain, North Africa, France and Great Britain. As a German he was interned there when the Second World War broke out and shipped to a camp in Canada. The impressions of this time were reflected in the book "KÖ goes to Africa" ​​(Verlag Hans Frenz, Bern 1934) and the first oil paintings. His first biography "Many talk - one calls", the testimony of a restless life appears (Benziger & Co AG, Einsiedeln, Cologne), which is published in 1957 as a paperback in the Kreuzing library (Johann-Josef-Zimmer Verlag, Trier) . In this book, Könekamp describes his struggle on his way back to Christianity and his way through to becoming a staunch Christian. In 1945 he returned to Great Britain. With his wife Rosamond building up the farm Cottlwyd (Westales) in 1949 they were engaged in intensive artistic activities. Large-format oil paintings were created (Cottlyd group). In 1962 he attended numerous solo exhibitions in London and on the continent. Member of the international institute for art studies. Dr.-Phil.-Member of the German Association of Authors (Hanover). The Federal Cross of Merit (First Class) of the Federal Republic of Germany was awarded to him in 1967 for "Europeanism in word, writing and color". In 1972 he became an honorary member of the "Accademia Internationale Tommaso Campanella Roma". Award of a gold medal "for good merits in the works of your art"

Due to exile, internment and living in Wales, Könekamp is almost unknown in Germany. The "Friedrich-Könekamp-Archiv" eV has set itself the task of documenting Könekamp's work and classifying it in German art of the 20th century.
