history

On October 1, 1945, Friedrich Kiehl, the head of the book and tax office of the Ludwigshafen district craftsmen, relocated his publishing house from Obervölklingen to Ludwigshafen am Rhein. The Kiehl Verlag initially published the Palatinate-Hessian tax letters, a bulletin stapled together from A4 sheets in which respected tax officials reported as authors. In the years that followed, “Fee Rates” and the “Current Collection” were added as regular sequels, as were the magazines “Tax and Bookkeeping” and the “Young Bookkeeper”, which later became “JuSt - Young Tax Specialists”. Kiehl Verlag also delivered tax forms and tax tables.

At the beginning of the 1950s, Kiehl Verlag increasingly focused on training and further education. The series "Examination books for commercial apprenticeships" was founded, and many titles gradually became standard works. The individual volumes are aimed at trainees in various commercial professions, prospective tax clerks, administrative clerks, lawyers and notaries as well as medical and dental assistants.

Friedrich Kiehl Verlag has been part of the NWB publishing group since 1964. The appearance and profile of the Kiehl brand have existed since that time.

1974 began the series of compendium of practical business administration with the first volume "cost accounting". Under its editor Klaus Olfert it became the flagship of the publishing house in the following years and today comprises more than 20 volumes for economics courses and continuing education.

From 1980 the Kiehl Verlag expanded its program with examination books to prepare for the IHK exam for business administrators, business administrators and industrial masters, making it one of the leading providers of adult education on the German market today. The 21-volume “Compendium of Practical Business Management” sold around two million books. The volumes “Organization”, “Materials Management” and “Marketing” are even available in Chinese translation.
