FL Bauer Prize

The FL Bauer Prize of the Technical University of Munich is a computer science prize awarded in honor of Friedrich L. Bauer .

The prize is endowed with 25,000 euros (and before the currency changeover with 50,000 DM). It has been awarded since 1992, the 25th anniversary of the introduction of the computer science course in Germany. Seven prizes had been awarded by 2009.

  • 1996 Anne Troelstra (University of Amsterdam)
  • 1998 Gilbert W. Stewart (University of Maryland), for his life's work in numerical linear algebra
  • 2000 Henri Cohen (University of Bordeaux), for work on algorithmic number theory with applications in cryptography
  • 2007 Tony Hoare , "in recognition of his internationally outstanding scientific achievements in the foundation of computer science"
  • 2009 Stephen Wolfram , for developing Mathematica
