Gilbert W. Stewart

Gilbert Wright Stewart III (* 1940 ) is an American mathematician who studies numerical linear algebra .

Stewart received his PhD from the University of Tennessee in 1968 with Alston Scott Householder ( Some Topics in Numerical Analysis ). He had been a professor at the University of Maryland since the 1970s .

He is one of the authors of LINPACK with Jack Dongarra , Cleve Moler , Jim Bunch.

In 1998 he received the Friedrich L. Bauer Prize .
