Friedrich Pein

Friedrich Pein (born October 20, 1915 in Spitz , † February 14, 1975 in Mureck ) was an Austrian sniper in the Wehrmacht during the Second World War . Along with Matthäus Hetzenauer, he was one of two German snipers who were awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross .

Pein joined the Wehrmacht in October 1938 and served as a sniper in Mountain Infantry Regiment 143 of the 6th Mountain Division on the Eastern Front . In early 1944 he was transferred to the 100th Jäger Division . On February 28, 1945 he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross for his 200th soldier killed in sniper missions.
