The Friedrich Wilhelm, Preussische Lebens- und Garantie-Versicherungs-Actien-Gesellschaft was an insurance company . On March 26, 1866, the establishment of the company with its headquarters in Berlin (at Wilhelmplatz ) was approved by the King of Prussia, Wilhelm I , after it had previously been founded at the end of 1865.

Company history

Establishment and opening up to agricultural workers

Already in 1868 there were approvals of the society in all German countries. The insurance conditions were designed in such a way that all strata of the population should have access to the insurance. For this purpose it was possible to conclude collective agreements for small amounts insured, which were particularly suitable for the farm workers. This should also counteract the migration of agricultural workers abroad. That is why agricultural associations and their specialist press supported and promoted this life insurance policy. In a business advertisement it was announced that at the end of 1871 "18,000 people with 10 million thalers capital and 14,000 thalers annual pension" were represented in the Prussian life and guarantee insurance company in Berlin .

First company with weekly premiums

In 1882, the company was the first German life insurance company to introduce the payment of weekly premiums. In the same year there was a merger with the Viennese life insurance bank Patria , which led a large part of the workers' insurance . Together with the weekly bonuses, the system of receipt stamps was introduced, which made bonus payments even more attractive for workers. It was not until 1899 that the company introduced tariffs with monthly premium payments.

First life insurance policies without a medical examination

In 1900, the company was the first German life insurance company to conclude a contract without a medical examination, which at the time meant a considerable improvement for life insurance companies. The company had thus achieved an important position against the numerous death and pension funds. In 1913 there was a merger with the life insurance company and the death benefit of the German War Association .

In the 1913 annual report, the company stated the number of insured persons as 3,308,727. The insurance portfolio comprised a sum of more than one billion marks and the receipt of all premiums in the reporting year amounted to about 52 million marks. In 1913 the name was changed to Friedrich Wilhelm Lebensversicherung Aktiengesellschaft . An interest group with the Union Allgemeine Versicherungs Aktiengesellschaft was decided in 1915. In 1922 the company was taken over by the Gerling Group.

Until 1945, there were paper seals that bore the company's name and were used to seal letters. Therefore, these brands were also called seal brands. The Berlin address Behrenstr. 58–81 specified by the company.
