Valepotriate

Valepotriate is the name for a group of herbal ingredients found in the valerian plants, real medicinal valerian ( Valeriana officinalis ), Valeriana wallichii , Valeriana mexicana and red spurflower ( Centranthus ruber ). The designation goes to " Val eriana- Epo xy Tri back ester".

Chemical structure

The valepotriates are iridoids whose hydroxyl groups are esterified with isovaleric acid and acetic acid and have an epoxy ring.

Occurrence

Valtrat is a colorless oil that is also found in the kesso root and is optically active .

Biological effects

The valepotriates are given an equilibrating , i. H. Attributed to sedating when aroused and activating when tired. However, they are not found in valerian tea and tincture .

In vitro , valepotriates and their metabolites show alkylating , cytotoxic and mutagenic effects.
