Friedrich von Hoya

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Friedrich von Hoya was Abbot of Corvey from 1080 to 1082 .

After his election as abbot, doubts arose about his suitability for the office. He was more interested in amusement and hunting and hardly in his spiritual duties. Friedrich wasted church property and his way of life had a negative effect on the monks. Due to the insecurity in the empire as a result of the fighting between Friedrich von Schwaben and Heinrich IV. Corvey's territory also suffered. Neighboring aristocrats invaded and caused severe damage to the Eresburg and the Obermarsberg Provostry there . The monks there finally elected Erkenbert von Homburg as abbot. In Corvey itself, Friedrich was considered unworthy and deposed.
