Warin II. (Also called Werner ) († 1079 ) was Abbot of Corvey from 1071 to 1079 .

Life

On behalf of Heinrich IV, a large gathering of high nobility, especially from Saxony, took place in Corvey in 1073 under the direction of the Archbishops of Cologne and Mainz . In the same year Gregory VII was elected Pope and the battle of the Saxons against Henry IV began. A year later, the first unsuccessful peace negotiations were held in Corvey. In the dispute between the emperor and the pope, Warin II was on the side of the pope. At that time, a monk named Bernhard wrote a script in which he portrayed the emperor as a schismatic . Under Warin the conflict with the Diocese of Osnabrück over certain tithe continued. The abbot promoted the growth of the town of Höxter . As a pious man he had a church built on the Heiligenberg in honor of St. Michael in 1078. With the consent of the monastery chapter, he gave her various properties for maintenance.
