Friend Like Me is a song from the movie Aladdin . It was written by Alan Menken (music) and Howard Ashman (text). With this song Genie introduces himself in the movie Aladdin and shows him what possibilities there are for the three wishes granted. The song is sung by Robin Williams , the spokesman for the Djinni. In the German-language version of the film, it's called Nur'n Little Friendship Service , sung by Peer Augustinski .
Friend Like Me was nominated for an Oscar for Best Movie Song . In the same category, the song was also nominated for a Golden Globe . In both cases the award went to A Whole New World , also from Aladdin.
