Frederick Christoffel Hendrik du Preez (born November 28, 1935 in Rustenburg ) is a former South African rugby union player who played in the second row or as a flanker . He was active for the Northern Transvaal Rugby Union and the South African national team .
Du Preez first ran on January 7, 1961 for South Africa in the game against England . Ten years later he ended his international career at the age of 35 after the game against Australia . He was one of the best all-rounders and one of the few strikers who also mastered kicking. In addition to his jumping ability, he was also very quick and agile for his stature. His compatriot Danie Craven described du Preez as a unique player who could have played in almost any position.
Du Preez is one of the most popular athletes in his country to this day, among others he was voted Player of the 20th Century by South African experts. In 1997 he was inducted into the International Rugby Hall of Fame. In 2003 he was named one of the top ten players of all time by Rugby World Magazine along with Craven.
