The Frillensee is a small mountain lake in the district of Grainau near Garmisch-Partenkirchen .
The name is derived from Frille or minnow (Phoxinus phoxinus), a small freshwater fish from the carp family .
description
The lake is 12,710 square meters. The maximum water depth is 5 meters.
Emergence
The Frillensee was formed with the Eibsee when part of the Zugspitze massif came loose and caused a crater that then filled with groundwater. Another landslide separated the Frillensee from the Eibsee. Both lakes are still connected underground and the water level is always the same height. The morphology of the lake and its surroundings is dominated by rockslide blocks. Only on the southeast bank is a small gravel bank that was washed ashore by a creek that no longer exists.
