Frito-Lay is a US company. It was created in 1961 through the merger of The Frito Company and HW Lay & Company . These are two companies that were founded in parallel in 1932. Initially, the Texas- based Frito Company relied on corn chips , while founder Herman Lay relied on potato chips .

Together, the companies achieved annual sales of US $ 127 million in 1961 and, after further mergers, were able to increase this to US $ 1 billion in 1979.

Today the company is part of the PepsiCo group.

Frito-Lay products have only been on the German market since 2000.

The company relies on chips for the most part. Corn snacks and dips are also offered.

The chips for the German market are produced in the Netherlands by Frito-Lay's Dutch subsidiary Smith's Food Group BV. The dips are made in the USA for the German market.
