Fritz Baum

Fritz Baum (born October 21, 1879 in Essen ; † August 2, 1955 there ) was a German manager in the German coal and steel industry.

Life

Fritz Baum, born as the son of a pharmacy owner, attended high school in Essen. After graduating from high school, he studied mining at the University of Heidelberg and the Technical University of Aachen. In 1901 he became a member of the Corps Rhenania in Heidelberg . In 1904 he became a mountain trainee. In 1909 he left the civil service as a mining assessor and became mine director of the Admiral trade union in Hörde and, subsequently, of the Niederrheinische Bergwerksgesellschaft in Neukirchen and the AG Friedrich-Heinrich. After he had been director and board member of Rheinische Stahlwerke AG until 1927, he became director and board member of Ruhrgas AG in early 1928.

Baum was a member of the supervisory board of Rheinisch-Westfälische Sprengstoff AG, Maschinenfabrik Foster AG in Altenessen and Maschinenfabrik Westfalia AG in Gelsenkirchen. He was a member of the board of directors of the Association for Mining Interests in the Dortmund District Mining Authority.

Awards and honors

In the First World War, in which he took part as Rittmeister of the Reserve, Fritz Baum was awarded the Iron Cross, 2nd and 1st class. In Neukirchen-Vluyn the Fritz-Baum-Allee was named after him.
