Fritz Benedum

Fritz Benedum (born February 20, 1902 in Kusel ; † December 25, 1965 there ) was a German worker and politician (KPD).

Fritz Benedum attended elementary school in Kusel. After that he earned his living as a textile worker. He had been married since 1923.

During the First World War Benedum joined the Independent Social Democratic Party of Germany (USPD). In 1919 he switched to the Communist Party of Germany (KPD). For this Benedum belonged from November 1932 to March 1933 as a member of the Reichstag in Berlin for constituency 27 (Palatinate) . In addition, he sat in the district assembly since 1928 and in the city council of Kusel since 1929. He was also a member of the metal workers' association.

After the transfer of power to the National Socialists, Benedum was re-elected to parliament on March 5, 1933 , but, like all KPD members, was no longer able to exercise his mandate. In spring 1933 he emigrated to the Saar area . By order of the KPD, Benedum returned to the German Reich on June 8, 1933, but was arrested immediately after his arrival and held in " protective custody " for a good month . He was arrested again in September 1939 and held in Buchenwald concentration camp until January 1940 . From 1942 to 1945 he was recruited into the Wehrmacht .

After the liberation , Benedum was a member of the KPD district leadership and district council member for Kusel from 1946 . In 1948 he was elected to the Kusel City Council. In 1950 Benedum joined the Titoist Independent Workers' Party of Germany (UAPD).
