Fritz Caspari (Metallurgist)

Fritz Caspari (born September 22, 1883 in Mannheim ; † November 4, 1964 in Wilhelmsfeld ) was a German chemist, metallurgist and non-fiction author on the subject of horticulture.

Life

Fritz Caspari attended high school in Mannheim and from 1902 studied chemistry in Bonn and Strasbourg . In Strasbourg he received his doctorate on June 29, 1908 and since March 15, 1908 assistant. He then worked as a chemist at the Höchst paintworks. During the First World War he was chief metallurgist at the copper and brass works in Heegermühle and director in Homberg and Gelsenkirchen until 1925. At the University of Berlin he received a teaching position for metallurgy at the Chemical-Technical Institute in 1927. In 1933 he was considered as a potential successor to Rudolf Hoffmann at the Chair of Metallurgy and Electrometallurgy at the Clausthal Mining Academy . He was a founding member of the Society of German Metalworkers and Miners .

From 1933 to 1950 he lived on his country estate, the "Klosterwiese" in Gstadt am Chiemsee , and created an ecological garden there. He described his experiences from this in the book "Fertile Garden". Along with Laurentia Dombrowski, Gertrud Franck , Albert and Wolfgang von Haller, Ewald Könemann, Oswald Hitschfeld and Heinrich Schwab, Caspari was one of the most important representatives of organic farming .

His great-grandfather was the geologist Johann Jacob Nöggerath .
