Fritz Jorde

Friedrich "Fritz" August Jorde (born February 25, 1856 in Elberfeld (now part of Wuppertal ), † January 17, 1941 in Wuppertal) was a German teacher, local historian and author of travel guides.

Life

Until his retirement in 1921 he was the rector of the Catholic elementary school in Deweerthstraße. He repeatedly headed the Catholic Society “Parliament” as chairman and was chairman of the Elberfeld Tourist Association. Jorde was the bearer of the papal order “ Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice ”. His book On the History of the Jews in Wuppertal , published in 1933, is considered a gesture of tolerance and solidarity towards the Jewish population.
