Life

Rémond Fritz, the son of a master builder, was initially intended for the merchant class, but went to the stage in 1884, took lessons from Ms. Emilie Kaulla in Munich, began his work at the Stadttheater in Halle and then found engagement as a youthful hero in Breslau in 1885. In 1887 he came to Düsseldorf, 1888 to Danzig, where he stayed for two years, in 1891 to Bremen and in 1892 joined the Association of the Court Theater in Munich, where he worked for eight years and performed roles such as "Ferdinand", "Romeo", "Don Carlos" , "Max Piccolomini", but also such as "Konrad Bolz", "Veilchenfresser" etc. embodied with the best of luck. During this time, however, his pretty voice also came into its own, and so after completing his training he decided to switch to opera, which he carried out in 1900. He was hired as a hero tenor in Freiburg. There he developed increasingly vigorously in a vocal relationship, his magnificent, voluminous, sympathetic tenor came to the fore more and more, and authorities praised his singing as promising. The young vocal artist was particularly concerned with Wagner and achieved his greatest successes in this area. After working for two years in Freiburg, Rémond was already engaged for the Karlsruhe Court Theater. In addition to “Tannhäuser”, “Lohengrin”, “Siegmund”, “Siegfried” etc., “Othello”, “Canio”, “Max”, “Josef” etc. are among his excellent performances. From 1907 to 1910 he was engaged at the Cologne Opera. From 1911 to 1921 he was director of the United City Theaters in Cologne, i.e. the theater and opera house. General manager from 1921 to 1928. In these 17 years he helped the Cologne Opera House to flourish and established the company's reputation as a talent factory. After his retirement he was an honorary member of the Städtische Bühnen, Cologne. He was married to the soprano Marie Rémond , their son Fritz Rémond junior (1902–1976) also became an actor as well as a director and impresario.
