Varna ( Russian Ва́рна ) is a village (selo) in Chelyabinsk Oblast ( Russia ) with 9869 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

The village is located on the eastern edge of the southern Urals about 200 km south of the Oblast capital Chelyabinsk and a good 10 km from the border with Kazakhstan . It is located on the Nizhny Togusak, one of the headwaters of the right Ui tributary, Togusak .

Varna is the administrative seat of the Warnenski Rajons and the rural municipality of Warnenskoje selskoje posselenije, to which, in addition to the village, the settlement Kyzyl-Mayak (8 km southwest) belongs.

history

Varna was established in 1843 as a guard post of the Orenburg Cossack army near the then border between the Russian Empire and the steppe areas of the later Russian Turkestan , which were not yet colonized , initially as a post (post) or section (Uchastok) No. 30 of the Novolineiny rajon (“New Line Rajon “, For the area along the border line between the fortresses Troitsk and Orsk ).
