Jetkul ( Russian Е́ткуль ) is a village (selo) in the Chelyabinsk Oblast in Russia with 6,760 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

The place is about 40 km as the crow flies south-south-east of the Chelyabinsk Oblast Administrative Center in the south-western part of the West Siberian lowlands . It is located on the west bank of the eponymous Jetkulsees , 15 km southeast of the city of Korkino and just under 20 km northeast of Jemanschelinsk .

Jetkul administrative center is the Rajons Jetkulski and seat and only town in the rural community Jetkulskoje selskoje posselenije.

history

The village goes back to a border fortress of the Russian Empire built in 1736 or 1737 , which was named Jetkulskaja krepost after the lake .

On March 1, 1924, the village became the administrative seat of a Rajons named after him. In the 1930s, the administration was relocated to the up-and-coming Korkino, but with the granting of city rights to Korkino and its spin-off as an oblast-subordinate city, back to Jetkul in 1942. In 1959 the Rajon was temporarily released, but re-established on January 12, 1965.

Immediately to the west of the village runs the regional road 75K-012, which branches off between Chelyabinsk and Korkino from the federal trunk road A310 (formerly M36) or the Chelyabinsk bypass 75K-205 and leads to the southeast neighboring district of Oktyabrskoje . The nearest train station is 20 km to the west in Jemanschelinsk on the Chelyabinsk - Orsk / Qostanai route .
