Jurjusan ( Russian Юрюзань ) is a city in Chelyabinsk Oblast ( Russia ) with 12,571 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The city is located on the western flank of the Southern Urals about 300 km west of the Oblast capital Chelyabinsk on the Jurjusan of the same name , a left tributary of the Ufa in the Kama river system .

Jurjusan is part of the Kataw-Ivanovsk Raion . The larger " closed town " Trjochgorny is only a few kilometers south of the village .

The city is located a few kilometers from the southern section of the Trans-Siberian Railway Moscow - Samara - Chelyabinsk - Omsk , with which it is connected via a branch line to the Vyazovaya station (route kilometers 1818 from Moscow), and the M5 Moscow - Chelyabinsk highway .

history

Jurjusan was established in 1758 in connection with the establishment of the Jurjusan-Ivanovsky Sawod ironworks . From the end of the 19th century the plant and location were only called Jurjusanski Zavod . The plant was closed in 1908, the place was given city rights on June 18, 1943. The name is derived from the Old Turkish / Bashkir words for fast or large river .
